Program Coordinator/Pedagogue. National Center for K-16 Chinese Language Pedagogy, UC Berkeley.
The Center for Chinese Studies at UC Berkeley is currently seeking qualified candidates to manage its new National Center for K-16 Chinese Language Pedagogy. The appointment begins in early 2008, and is renewable annually, assuming continued funding. A commitment of two years or longer is desirable. The Program Coordinator (Academic Coordinator I) provide intellectual and administrative leadership for the center, developing and managing its programs and services in coordination with university, school and community partners, under the direction of the advisory committee. Duties will include organizing and convening working groups of faculty, teachers and experts to advise on K-16 Chinese language curriculum and curriculum guidelines, with state standards in mind; providing assistance to K-12 districts in establishing Chinese language programs; assisting existing language program to expand and strengthen curriculum; facilitating teacher training (both pre-service and continuing education), and creating distance learning opportunities for both students and teachers.
Candidates should possess native-level fluency in Mandarin, excellent English language skills, and have a strong background in Chinese language pedagogy/practice. Experience teaching Chinese and managing an academic program or center is preferred. Higher degree (PhD preferred) or equivalent experience.
