于丹湾区讲座

继余秋雨、易中天、王立群、孙立群之后,南海今年的“文化中国”讲演请的是被誉为学术超女的于丹。经过几次调整行程,她到达湾区的日期最后确定为7月26日(星期六)。为了旧金山、东湾和南湾的听众都能照顾到,今年的讲演地点定在了斯坦福大学。于丹讲授将于7月27日下午一点至四点做一个3个小时的演讲,并留出一个小时作为q & a时间。因为,活动免费而会场只能容纳300人,我们决定中文教师优先。在我们的正式消息公布前,事先通知包括贵会会员在内的中文教师,在南海网上报名。剩余名额再按照消息公布之后的报名先后录取。所以,请您通知一下贵会的同仁,如果对于这个讲座感兴趣,请于下个周五(6月20日)之前发电子邮件至stephnie@nanhai.com <mailto:请发电子邮件至stephnie@nanhai.com> 确认。

San Francisco Institute
For the Innovative Teaching of Chinese

SF Institute for Innovative Teaching of Chinese, funded by federal government, is a two-week summer intensive teacher training program designed to prepare teachers of Chinese to develop and implement research-based curriculum and instruction with focuses on:
·         Second language acquisition and best practices in Chinese language instruction
·         L2 literacy development in Chinese
·         Comics and story telling in L2 Classroom
·         National Chinese Standards and Chinese pedagogy
·         Application and integration of technology in teaching and learning of Chinese
Participants will meet and learn from renowned national and international scholars, and classroom teachers. Participants will have the opportunity to develop their own curriculum and lesson plans from the knowledge learned, and apply them in the teaching practicum.
Participant:
 The Institute is open to current K-12 teachers of Mandarin Chinese in any teaching institution.
Venue:
Burk Hall 173, College of Education, San Francisco State University.
Date:    June 16 – 27, 2008,   Monday – Friday from 9:00am - 3:30pm. 
Cost:      A $50 deposit check* will be required upon acceptance to hold the seat. The check will be returned to you after program completion with a $300 stipend award. One course credit (3 units) will be available. Instructional materials, refreshment and lunch will be provided.

2008 Teacher's Workshop on Chinese teaching

NewStar Chinese School is pleased to announce a workshop on Chinese teaching that will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at community Room, Davis Branch of Yolo county Library.
Prof. Chengzhi Chu of University of California, Davis will give us a speech about Component-Oriented Net-Weaving Approach (CONWA) to Character Teaching.  Prof. Juan Xu of Beijing Language University will give us a speech about Modern Technology in Teaching and Learning Chinese as a Second Language.

Lectures on Chinese Pedagogy by Prof. Shengli Feng

At the CLTAC Spring’08 Conference on March 8, Professor Shengli Feng of Harvard University will deliver a keynote speech titled “The simplicity of Chinese structures and its Pedagogical Principles.”  From March 9-12, Professor Feng will give four more talks on Chinese pedagogy at Nanhai, San Francisco Sate University, UC Davis, and UC Berkeley. Please see below for detail info of these lectures and attendance requirements. 

Professor Shengli Fengis Director of the Chinese Language Program of Harvard University. He is a leading scholar in Chinese linguist. His publications include The Prosodic Syntax of Chinese, Interactions between Morphology, Syntax, and Prosody in Chinese, and numerous articles. He is also the principle author of the textbook series Hanyu Zonghe Jiaocheng. In recent years he has developed an integrated theory on teaching advanced level Chinese, especially shumianyu (written Chinese).
